} About

We are Workhaus Projects, we are a museum fit out contractor that specialises in complex, high quality bespoke furniture and structures.  We are a creative and highly skilled bespoke manufacturer that can build anything imagined for exhibitions, museums, retail, commercial spaces and visitor experiences. Our skilled workforce consists of joiners, metal workers, painters, and prop makers.

We also have a team of project managers and CAD technicians to manage and develop your projects from research and development of ideas to acting as a full-blown main contractor and managing a package of sub-contractors.

Innovation is part of each project and it is this aspect that keeps it fresh and interesting every time. No two projects are the same and we excel at coming up with ideas to solve challenging designs. Often trying out options and prototyping a variety of materials and techniques.

View of the craft build process

A Bit of History… Formed in 2001 as a small joinery sub-contractor specialising in Museum exhibitions by Jim Ibbetson. Jim’s background until then had been as a self-employed scenic carpenter and prop maker working in theatre and TV. Our first ever project was Hull’s Streetlife Museum shown here.

Over the years the company has grown and expanded its skills and services to be able to offer a full in-house fit-out service.

In 2020, Joe Fisher joined Jim as a director and became the majority shareholder.  Joe first started with Workhaus in 2013 straight after a shopfitting apprenticeship. He’s been at the centre of everything since then, working as a site manager, job lead and project manager for some of our biggest projects.  As a director, he brings a new energy and passion to ensure Workhaus continues to go from strength to strength.

Our ethos is that we see ourselves as hardworking, honest, conscientious people who take a huge amount of pride in our work. We really care about getting the job done with the best possible outcome for our clients. Being known for working to the highest quality standards is a source of pride.

We are creative and technical problem solvers who love the chance to work collaboratively and encourage our clients to visit the workshop as much as possible.  We believe that the journey is as important as the completion.
